I met favour on Monday, 29 November 2010 at Business Management Master’s Class, Faculty of Business Administration University of Lagos, Akoka Lagos, Nigeria. The same Monday was my daughter’s dedication, they share the same name, have the same day and month of birth. She visited afterward to see her name sake and birthday mate. That brought her closer to my family.
Divinity allowed our paths to cross. We became the class leaders of our class. MS.c Management 2010/1011 session. We shared so many things in common and share thoughts; from academics, to family, to Spiritual things. I recall the day we went to Dr. Obagi’s office, our then PG coordinator. During our interaction with her, we were sharing our dreams and aspirations in life. Dr. (Mrs) Obagi encouraged us not to stop at MS.c but advance to Ph.D afterward.
I recall with nostalgia Saturday, 16 January 2016, when Bonaventure Chukwu (Ph.D in View) our close friend and course mate called me to reach you with the good news that you have being offered admission into Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Umuahia for a Ph.D programme. The same night I called to share the good news. We rejoiced and blessed the name of the Lord for His mercies.
Later in the year, I visited my son in the school. We visited Prof. James Ihemeje’s with Mr. Chukwu. I gave you and others present in the meeting complimentary copies of one of my books, Pathways to Effective Entrepreneurship. I recall your expression ‘wow no wonder you’re not keen about Ph.D now, this is a great project’ we encouraged ourselves in the Lord. Two years later, when I came to see how my son was faring, we saw and you said ‘Mazi, I thank you very much for that book, it is reference book and a great resource material for my programme’ you rhetorically asked with a low tone beaming with your usual smile, ‘when are you joining us? Our course mates are making giant strides in academics.’
I shared the testimony that I have rounded up my tutorial and about to start my seminar papers on Entrepreneurship Development. You rejoiced with me. The last word before I heard from you, before I boarded bus back to my School at Abakaliki was ‘don’t worry we will compare notes and write academic articles for journal publications together, develop the synopsis and let me know.’ That project was not because, Friday, April 3 2020, came with a different agenda, and Favour was not.
The following day, one of our course mates and friend, Mr. Sunday Felix Osanyintuyi, called me, after exchanging pleasantries, he retorted ‘Mazi what is happening to Madam Favour’s face book page? Go and find out what is happening there now? As I logged in, I saw countless tributes, I was flummoxed and speechless for few seconds before I screamed with my hands on my head, mouth agape, and staring on the screen of my laptop, my wife and daughter rushed out and saw the pictures of my friend, course mate, colleague and sister on the face book with tributes. I taught it was the greatest hoax of the year, but lo and behold Favour has gone to glory.
Mrs. Favour Amogu (Ph.D. in view) was a believer in the Almighty God with an outstanding testimony. A cheerful lady with an infectious laughter and electrifying aura. An honest and quintessential scholar. Beautiful and brilliant. Madam Favour was always happy, friendly and respects boundaries. A woman of many parts- a music minister, presenter, designer among other things. She was faithful and committed to her belief.
We pray God to grant us the courage to bear your absence.
Favour Lives!
Adieu! Adieu!! Adieu!!!
